Instruction for Evaluating for Purebred Status
Upon submission of an application for Purebred Status, the President of the ATSA will assume or appoint the position of chairman of the Evaluation Committee.
The Chair will look superficially at the submission and use the checklist on Page 1, if the submission meets all preliminary qualifications it will be pre-approved by the Chairman who will then form an Evaluation Committee consisting of Board Members and any Active member that the Chair feels can help with the process. No owner or breeder of a submitted animal may sit on the committee.
Each member will receive this cover letter and Evaluation Form. The Forms will have no identifying information on them other than a number assigned by the chair for record keeping purposes. They will also receive a copy of the ATSA Standard of Excellence and Perfection to refer to. The following link is recommended for reference to review and refresh points of general conformation: Canadian Guide for Selecting Breeding Stock
The Committee will also receive all pics and/or videos submitted to review. At any time during the evaluation process members are encouraged to ask for additional pictures or videos to help in the evaluation process, particularly where the pictures do not allow a clear and confident evaluation.
Once all members have completed their evaluations, the committee will meet and discuss the submission. During the discussion review members are free to change their scoring and hopefully come to consensus.
A simple majority vote will be taken when all discussion is complete. Once a decision is reached the owner will be notified. If approved, approval will be submitted to the Registrar and new papers will be issued once the old originals are received by the Registrar. Cost for new papers will covered by the application fee. If not approved the application fee will be returned.
